About Stelkia Maltese

My name is Michele Davis and I'm a serious and dedicated Maltese exhibitor and breeder located in Eastern Washington State. I am passionate about the Maltese breed and preserving the fundamental traits of the Maltese breed type and quality, while at the same time producing healthy and happy Maltese. I've been involved in the Maltese fancy since 2004 when I was met at the door of Audrey's Boutique by Lacy, the tiniest little bundle of white fluff you ever saw. That was the moment I became determined to own a Maltese. I got my first Maltese over the protests of my husband, Kevin, but his doubts disappeared and our home became devoted to the Maltese breed.

I bought my first show dog in 2010 from Cindy Jones of Senoj Maltese, Ch. Senoj's Alex Rodriguez of Stelkia, "Rascal."  Rascal was handled by me to his finished Championship. I will always be grateful to Cindy Jones for being a mentor and giving me a start in the Maltese show ring.

I finished Sugar, Ch. Riverview's Smart Cookie of Stelkia, in 2013. I was very lucky to acquire Sugar from the wonderful Leah McLaughlin of Riverview Maltese. Sugar is a very cute, typey Maltese with a beautiful silk coat. Sugar's younger sister, Riverview's Sweet as Honey of Stelkia, "Honey," is our newest rising star. Honey has outstanding movement and solid structure. We have high hopes for her accomplishments in the ring.

In 2013, Betty White of Jambet Maltese entrusted us with her boy, Ch. Jambet Love n Kisses of Marcris, "Lover." We are very please to bring Lover into our home and are excited about getting him in the the ring again, only this time it will be in the Rally ring.

I'm a proud member of the American Maltese Association, Pacific Rim Maltese Club and the Evergreen Maltese Club. Kevin and I are members of the Spokane Kennel Club. We share the values included in the Code of Sportsmanship.

Where does the name 'Stelkia' come from?

I wanted a kennel name that was unique, had personal meaning, and was a little exotic sounding. When searching for a kennel name, I was also researching my ancestral roots, and thought of many rejects before it became clear that the name of my kennel should be Stelkia.

Stelkia is the maiden name of my great grandmother, Clotilda Stelkia Black. Clotilda, a member of the Okanogan people, was born in Osoyoos, British Columbia in 1879. The Stelkia name was derived from the name of Clotilda's grandfather, Whistelkiah, Chief of the Osoyoos band during the late 1800's. I knew and loved my great grandmother very much. Great-Grandma Black passed away in Spokane, Washington in 1975 at the age of 97. We will never forget her.Quantcast
